Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Which practice areas does NAA cover?
NAA's lawyers work across seven areas: road traffic accidents, workplace accidents, civil liability, criminal law, employment law, family and child law, and legal-agent services.
Does NAA serve clients throughout the country?
Yes. Our office is in Lisbon, at R. dos Sapateiros 39. We serve clients throughout the country. We also meet in Cascais, Viana do Castelo, Braga, Vila Real, Porto, Aveiro, Viseu, Coimbra, Santarém, Évora and Faro, in whichever area is most convenient for you and by prior appointment. Remote meetings take place by video consultation or by phone.
How do I know which area my case falls under?
You do not need to know at the outset. Describe the situation to us and we will direct your case to the lawyer who can help you.
Is NAA a specialist in these areas?
The Portuguese Bar Association (Ordem dos Advogados) recognises the specialist title only in some areas, such as criminal law, employment law or family law. Widely searched phrases such as specialist workplace accident lawyer or specialist road traffic accident lawyer do not correspond to titles recognised by the Bar Association, so we do not claim them. What we offer is experience and genuine, hands-on practice in each of these matters.
What if my case involves more than one area?
This is common. A road traffic accident may also be a workplace accident and give rise to criminal proceedings. Our team brings the different strands together and handles the case in a single, coordinated way.
What should I bring to the first consultation?
Whatever you have. Documents, letters from the insurer or the court, messages and a short timeline of the events all help to save time. If you have none of these, come anyway, because sorting out what is missing is exactly what that first conversation is for.
How much does the first consultation cost?
It depends on the area. For road traffic and workplace accidents, as well as civil liability, the first consultation costs 60 euros (VAT included). In family and child law, criminal law and employment law it is 90 euros (VAT included). For legal-agent services, the cost depends on the act and is set out before you go ahead. If the matter is taken on by the office, that amount may be absorbed into the fees, and the consultation does not commit you to going ahead.
